Inside an autistic mind

May 19, 2009

Now that we’ve solved the whole vaccines vs. autism controversy, we can start to address the really cool questions: What is autism? What does it tell us about ourselves? Can we use any of that knowledge to improve our individual lives or to treat one another more humanely?

Ian says that inside his head is like a television and someone keeps changing the channels. Except (my words) that there are only like 10 shows on and they aren’t changing them in order. He gives us a running commentary about whatever is on the screen. Elton John, cars, the Titanic, cars, the Simpsons, video games, Elton John, school buses, school buses school buses. It is both amazing and painful to watch.
